Meditation on Peace

In my mind’s eye I envision
a serene lake ….
and not far from its shore
I notice a little duck all curled up into herself.
Her slick tufted head is tucked into her body.

I study her as she bobs along peacefully,
carried ever so gently by the lapping of the waves.
Set adrift, she remains settled and at ease,
trusting the  movement of the waters
to keep her safe …

Attuning to her sense of soft release
I settle myself
and breathe deeply.

I imagine how I might learn
from this sweet and wordless teacher.

Following her posture,
I too imagine curling myself gratefully
into the warmth of my body.
I tuck my grasping mind – amidst all of
it’s worries and things undone -
and nestle it safely into my welcoming  heart.

Letting go of all resistance I sink into the
Womb of our Loving Creator
and allow the buoyancy of her waters
to set me adrift within her safe embrace.

And now, just like the little duck,
I feel the exquisite peace that arises
from surrender.
I fall into the infinite Grace
that keeps us afloat
amidst our wildest uncertainties.

In time, the little creature will raise her
head, renewed and refreshed,
and set out to paddle on her unique adventure.
Humbly Unaware
of the gift she has left in her wake.

I breathe now,
remembering once again
that beneath me is all that I need.

In this silence of surrender
I find an oasis of Peace.
I am Home.
Home  in my body.
Home in my soul.

And I welcome the lapping of the waves
that forever carry me
and guide my
adventure upon the waters of life.

Peace be with you.
